Thom Browne Fall 2024 Couture Pulls Back The Curtain

Thom Browne‘s Fall 2024 Couture show debuted an almost completely white or cream collection with looks utilizing muslin, a fabric commonly used to make garment mockups. With the Paris Olympics a month away and hoards of brands looking to capitalize, the house paid tribute to the historic games in a way only Thom Browne could pull off.

The show started with a bang as excessively layered looks were filled with different textures and silhouettes. These looks vaguely resemble suits, a Thom Browne staple, like the opening look, a gown with an extremely oversized and voluminous blazer. Or take a suit that played with cutouts and proportions so much that it blurred the line between a suit and dress. All models were adorned with an embroidery sampler either fashioned as a mask or headpiece.

As the looks progressed, sporty silhouettes like shorts and pleated tennis skirts became more prevalent, mixed with dramatic gowns. Lace-up track heels and boots that every model wore alongside little dog purses incorporated the theme through the details.

Utilizing sequins and bugle beads, embroidered Grecian figures also gave garments a special flair as each carried a different Olympic athlete like an archer, javelinist, disc thrower, wrestler and weightlifter. One look took the overall theme of pulling back the curtain literally as half of the trenchcoat revealed detailed embroidered anatomy with each essential muscle defined.

The show culminated with an ode to the highest achievement an Olympian can achieve, the gold medal. First, an elaborate gown filled with florals and a large swooping collar to resemble a victor’s bouquet walked the runway. Then three models walked down showcasing intricate sportcoats in bronze, silver and gold—the Olympic placements.
