Born to a Jamaican father and Scottish mother, the Lutterworth-raised Nicholas Daley has also centered the study, inspiration and exhibition of culture as a driver in his design practices. Whether it be something as small as details or the philosophy for an entire collection, Daley continues to utilize culture as a means of both self and artistic expression. The designer’s new Spring/Summer 2025 collection is no different as it centers on Rastafari consciousness and devotional percussion with “Sacred Drums.”
With the collection, Daley looks into the roots of the 1930s-established Jamaican relation and how its elements of sound, rhythm, culture and spirituality not only reveal diasporic history, but diasporic modernity. In Daley’s exploration of past and present, the collection tosses up history-laden jumpers, cacoon-shaped outerwear, coordinating sets, athletic jackets, ultra-loose pants, knitwear, skirts and more. But regardless of the garment type, the collection works to blend styles – pairing sporty with classic, casual with tailored and refined with relaxed.
Another key drive in Daley’s carried fabric usage, which sees the Sonic Jacquard, sound wave patterns, various plaids, thick stripes and more. The range of fabric styles and prints also casts a natural tone over the collection with shades of army green, beige, camel, bark, brick, stone blue and more. Special highlights include the SLYGO Jumper, Field Shirt and Wide Leg Pleated Trouser and the ND Tracksuit.
