Natasha Zinko Resort 2025 Dresses the Dystopia

Natasha Zinko has released its Resort 2025 collection, an offering that flips the optimistic theme of its previous Fall/Winter 2024 collection on its head. While designers often seek a sense of escapism during bleak times—think Balmain transporting viewers to Boreaux or Moschino’s wonderfully excessive and candy-colored garments—the 29 looks here feature garments suited for a dystopian future.

The darker color palette immediately set the tone as deep blues, stark white, black and beige contrasted the cheery colors of the previous season. Silhouettes pull from extreme opposites as well with garments constructed using straps and sleeves reminiscent of straight jackets. On the flip side, looks also left the body exposed with extremely short mini skirts and cutouts. Looks from the brand’s previous FW collection were reinterpreted as spacesuit-inspired pieces: think a strapped-up trench coat with a more frayed and intimidating look due to the added industrial hardware or a voluminous jacket that used asymmetry and duller material.

Denim is also heavily featured, as the durable fabric is known to withstand the elements even if the appearance takes a hit. The denim garments appeared worn-in as yellow fading, rips and frayed edges gave the looks a rich backstory.

Necessities like food, water and shelter typically come to mind when thinking about an apocalyptic scenario, but Natasha Zinko focused on an overlooked essential: clean underwear. Briefs were used for multiple accessories and garments, from headpieces and bags and even served as a replacement for pants, staying true to the resourcefulness a dystopia requires.
